Understanding the Kudlit System
Unlike the Latin alphabet, Baybayin is an **abugida** where every consonant character inherently carries the vowel sound /a/.
α
1. Inherent /a/ Vowel
Writing the base character alone (e.g. α) produces the syllable βBaβ.
αα
2. Kudlit Above (/i/ or /e/)
Placing a dot or tick above the character (α) changes the vowel sound to βBiβ or βBeβ.
αα
3. Kudlit Below (/u/ or /o/)
Placing a mark below the character (α) changes the vowel sound to βBuβ or βBoβ.
